The third-ranked Middlebury women’s lacrosse team scored five unanswered goals in the opening 18:14 of play and then held on for a big 7-5 win over Colby in a battle of nationally-ranked teams on Saturday at Bill Alfond Field.
The Panther track & field teams hosted their lone home meet of the season, as the Middlebury Invitational was moved up a day to Friday due to the possibility of poor weather conditions predicted for Saturday. The men won the meet with 214 points, while the women finished second with 198. The Panthers welcomed Springfield, Castleton State, Plattsburgh State, Williams and Green Mountain to a sun-soaked Dragone Track.

The seventh-ranked Panthers used a decisive five-goal run in the fourth quarter to hold off a pesky Hamilton squad Wednesday on Youngman Field at Alumni Stadium, and turned around a few days later on Saturday to get past Colby, 15-12.
The ninth-ranked Middlebury women's tennis team posted an unblemished 2-0 week against two NESCAC foes. The Panthers eased past Hamilton on the road Saturday by a 9-0 score inside the Margaret Scott Bundy Field House, and returned home for a 5-0 victory in a match played to decision over Connecticut College in Duke Nelson Arena.
The sixth-ranked Middlebury men's tennis team posted a perfect 3-0 record last week. On Saturday, the Panthers were victorious on the road by identical 7-2 scores over Skidmore and Hamilton. Returning home for a match on Sunday, Middlebury cruised past Connecticut College by a 7-0 score in a match played to decision inside Duke Nelson Arena.
The Middlebury softball team opened its home season on Friday with a pair of NESCAC West games against Williams. The Ephs battled back Friday from a 3-0 deficit and took game one 6-4, while scoring late for a 7-0 win in second game of the day. Saturday’s third game of the series was postponed due to weather and will be made up in a single game on Sunday, April 12.
The Middlebury baseball team dropped three games last weekend during a NESCAC West series played at Auburn High School in Auburn, Massachusetts. The Panthers fell on Friday to the Jeffs by a 22-2 score, and were defeated by tallies of 18-2 and 20-10 during Saturday’s doubleheader.
