  • Middlebury Mourns the Passing of Murphy Roberts '17

    Middlebury College mourns the loss of a current undergraduate student, Murphy Roberts ’17, who died on Sunday, August 14, while hiking in Southern Utah. Murphy experienced a seizure related to his Type 1 diabetes, which caused a fall that resulted in a series of complications. He was never in pain and passed with his parents and siblings by his side. The rising senior and political science major was 22 years old.
  • Middlebury Finishes Fifth in Learfield Sports Directors' Cup Standings

    Middlebury has finished fifth among 322 college and universities that registered points in the 2015-16 Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings. The Panthers earned their 13th-straight top-10 finish, winning the cup in 2011-12.
  • Shackelford, Pierce Inducted Into Phi Beta Kappa

    Middlebury College women's tennis player Sadie Shackelford (Sewanee, Tenn.) and football defensive back Dan Pierce (Needham, Mass.) were two of 57 students recently elected to Phi Beta Kappa, the oldest honor society for the liberal arts and sciences in the United States.
  • Long-Time Athletic Trainer Sue Murphy Set to Retire

    Sue Murphy, longtime member of the Middlebury College Sports Medicine Department, will retire in August after 40 years at the College. Murphy joined the staff in September of 1976 after earning her degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Vermont earlier that year.

  • NESCAC Spring All-Academic Team Announced

    The New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) has announced its 2016 Spring All-Academic Selections. To be honored, a student-athlete must have reached sophomore academic standing and be a varsity letter winner with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.35. A transfer student must have completed one year of study at the institution. The following are Middlebury's 95 representatives.
  • NESCAC Spring All-Sportsmanship Teams Announced

    The New England Small College Athletic Conference announced its Spring All-Sportsmanship Team for each spring sport sponsored by the conference. The All-Sportsmanship Team is composed of one student-athlete from each institution for each sport and is selected by the players and coaches from their respective team for their positive contributions to sportsmanship. The student-athlete selected must be in good academic standing and a member of the team at the conclusion of the season in order to be eligible for selection.
  • Virtue Field House Receives LEED Gold Certification

    Middlebury College's expansive, light-filled Virtue Field House, completed last year, has earned the U.S. Green Building Council’s second-highest level of certification, LEED Gold. The LEED stamp of approval came earlier this month. The LEED rating system (shorthand for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is the most widely used third-party verification for green buildings, certifying and celebrating buildings that promote sustainability, resource conservation, and human health.
  • Middlebury Announces Inductees for Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2016

    Middlebury College today announced its 2016 class of inductees into the Middlebury Athletics Hall of Fame class. The third class to be inaugurated, this year’s group includes graduates from five different decades, from as early as 1944 and as recent as 2001. The class includes four men and two women who, combined, played eight different sports for the College. One of the inductees is also being honored for his service as a coach.
  • Middlebury SAAC to Host Sportsmanship Weekend

    The Middlebury College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is proud to sponsor a Sportmanship Weekend during all home events. Activities throughout the weekend include a "whiteout" where fans are encouraged to wear white for all athletic events, tables setup at contests for kids to get a blue 'M' painted on their cheek by Middlebury SAAC members, a halftime kid's lacrosse game during the Middlebury and Trinity NESCAC women's lacrosse contest and much more.

    Middlebury College celebrated the first intercollegiate track & field meet inside Virtue Field House on Saturday, January 16 with a victory over three other colleges and an unofficial homecoming for alumni runners of all ages.

  • Happy Holidays From Middlebury Athletics

    The Middlebury College Department of Athletics would like to wish you and yours a very Happy Holiday season! The Panthers are idle until December 30 when the women's basketball team hosts Salve Regina in Pepin Gym at 4:00 p.m. in the final game of 2015. The new year opens with the men's hockey team hosting its annual Holiday Classic in Kenyon Arena on January 2-3.

    Middlebury College has announced the hiring of Lyle Fulton as an Athletic/Communications Assistant. Fulton comes to Middlebury from The College of New Jersey, where he served as the Assistant Sports Information Director for the past 10 years.

    The Middlebury Athletics Hall of Fame, now in its second year of existence, inducted 10 former student-athletes and coaches into its ranks at a gala ceremony held on November 7 in Nelson Recreation Center.

  • Cray Promoted to Acting Director of Sports Medicine

    Kelly Cray has been named the Acting Director of Sports Medicine following the retirement of Dave Matthews at the end of last spring. Cray, a 24-year veteran, has served as the Associate Director of Sports Medicine since 2013 and was named an associate athletic trainer in 2001.
  • Bernard, Cutts Named to Assistant Athletic Training Positions

    Middlebury College has announced the hiring of Bethany Bernard and Matt Cutts as assistant athletic trainers in the Sports Medicine Department. Bernard comes to Middlebury from Gwynedd Mercy, where she served in a similar position for the past two years, while Cutts was the head athletic trainer at Pinnacle High School in Phoenix, Arizona.
