The Middlebury volleyball team advanced to the NESCAC Championship match for the third straight year, topping third-seeded Bowdoin 3-2 (25-21, 19-25, 19-25, 25-23, 15-6) in a semifinal contest at Connecticut College. The second-seeded Panthers will take on the host school at noon on Sunday with an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament on the line.
Megan Jarchow led the offensive attack with 13 kills, followed by Julia Gibbs with 10, Piper Underbrink, who earned seven and Amy Hart with six. Kathryn Haderlein earned 34 assists with 16 digs, Sarah Studwell had five service aces, while Madeline Firestone and Jarchow each had 2.5 blocks. Gibbs led all Panthers with 22 digs, while Caitlin Barrett earned 21.
Christy Jewett had 19 kills, five digs and three blocks for Bowdoin. Melissa Haskell chipped in with 14 kills and 20 digs. Tory Edelman and Emese Gaal both saw double-figures with 11 kills, while Sophia Cornew dished out 54 assists to go with 19 digs in the loss.
