The Middlebury track & field teams participated in the two-day Open New England Championships on Friday and Saturday hosted by Dartmouth. The men finished 18th out of 36 scoring teams at the event, while the women wound up tied for 30th of 39 squads who tallied points. All three NCAA divisions were represented at the meet, as the top-eight finishers in each event earned All-New England honors. Selected members of the respective teams will return to action in hopes of bettering their NCAA marks on Thursday at the MIT Last Chance Meet.
During the women's action, Kate McCluskey earned All-New England honors with a fourth-place effort during the 400-meter dash in 55.75. That time is the sixth-fastest mark in Division III this outdoor season.
In the men's events, Nicholas Hendrix was third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.76. A few events later, Matt D'Aquila finished fourth in the 10,000-meter run (30:24.80). Other top-eight individual performances on the track came from Nathan Hill, who finished fifth in the 1,500-meter run (3:52.30), while Kevin Serrao was eighth in the 800-meter run in 1:52.24.
The 4x400-meter relay team of William Robertson, James Mulliken, Arden Coleman and Jimmy Martinez finished fifth in the event with a time of 3:17.94.
