Gomez, 800 Free Relay Efforts Highlight Day Three of NCAA Meet

The Middlebury women's 800-yard freestyle relay finished 13th and Maya Gomez swam to 12th place in the 100-yard breaststroke for Honorable Mention All-American honors during day three of the 2017 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships. The four-day event is taking place at the Conroe ISD Natatorium in Shenandoah, Texas and is being hosted by the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference and the City of Shenandoah.

The quartet of Morgan Burke, Kristin Karpowicz, Stephanie Andrews and Isabel Wyer stopped the clock with a time of 7:32.45 to conclude the morning's swim with the 14th-best mark in the 800-yard freestyle relay. The top-eight seeded teams entering the meet swam in the evening's final, as the Panthers' morning time bested one of the team's marks to move up into 13th place overall.

As individuals, three Panthers swam in the 100-yard breaststroke. Gomez recorded the 12th-quickest time of 1:03.57 in the morning preliminaries, matching that 12th-place effort during the consolation final in 1:03.71. During the morning preliminary swim, Nora O'Leary finished 29th in the event (1:04.77), while Celia Ripple was 33rd (1:05.52).

The final day of competition begins Saturday morning with preliminaries at 11:00 a.m., while the finals are slated for 7:00 p.m.
