Women’s Squash Blanks Tufts in Season-Opening Home Win

Middlebury blanked Tufts on Saturday afternoon by a 9-0 score in its season opener in the Bostwick Family Squash Center. The 15th-ranked Panthers (1-0) return to the courts next Saturday when they travel to Wesleyan for a 3:00 p.m. match.

In the win over the Jumbos (2-1), the Panthers surrendered just seven games. Victories by Mira Chugh at No. 9 (10-12, 11-3, 11-2, 11-4) over Chloe Kantor and Natalie Madden in the sixth spot against Hannah Burns (11-8, 11-7, 11-9) gave the Panthers a 2-0 advantage. Alexa Comai made the score 3-0 in favor of Middlebury with a 9-11, 11-5, 11-2, 11-4 win at No. 3 against Zarena Jafry.

Wins four through six came from Natasha Lowitt in the eighth spot over Sahana Karthik (11-3, 8-11, 11-, 11-5), Emily Beinkampen in the fifth spot against Megan Chen (7-11, 11-7, 11-7, 11-9) and Ideal Dowling at No. 2 over Julie Yeung (11-4, 11-3, 10-12, 11-2).

Gwen Davis in the seventh spot posted an 11-8, 11-7, 11-3 win over Diya Sanghi, while Virginia Schaus made the score 8-0 with an 11-5, 11-4, 11-7 triumph against Rachel Windreich in the fourth position. Beatrijs Kuijpers completed the sweep with a five-game victory (11-9, 11-13, 12-10, 6-11, 15-13) against Claire Davidson in the top spot.
