  • Panther Softball Honored by NFCA for Classroom Work

    The Middlebury softball team was honored by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) for its overall work in the classroom during the 2017-18 academic year. Seven Panthers also earned All-America Scholar-Athlete laurels for their individual work from the organization.
  • Middlebury Softball to Host Prospect Winter Clinic

    The Middlebury softball team will host a prospect winter clinic on Sunday, January 20, 2019 (Martin Luther King Jr. weekend). The one-day clinic will run from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. inside Middlebury's Virtue Field House and is open to high school sophomores and juniors with a cost of $150.

  • NESCAC Spring All-Academic Team Members Honored

    The New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) has announced its 2018 Spring All-Academic Selections. To be honored, a student-athlete must have reached sophomore academic standing and be a varsity letter winner with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.40. A transfer student must have completed one year of study at the institution. The following are Middlebury's 131 representatives, the second-highest total in the conference.
  • NESCAC Spring All-Sportsmanship Teams Announced

    The New England Small College Athletic Conference announced its Spring All-Sportsmanship Team for each spring sport sponsored by the conference. The All-Sportsmanship Team is composed of one student-athlete from each institution for each sport and is selected by the players and coaches from their respective team for their positive contributions to sportsmanship. The student-athlete selected must be in good academic standing and a member of the team at the conclusion of the season in order to be eligible for selection.
  • Mandell Earns NFCA All-Region Accolade

    Middlebury College softball player Melanie Mandell (Harrison, N.Y.) was honored by the National Fastpitch Coach Association (NFCA) being named to the All-New England Region team. Mandell landed a spot on the first team as an outfielder, picking up her second all-region laurel in as many seasons after second-team honors in 2017. Mandell had previously earned All-NESCAC accolade for the second-straight season, helping lead the Panthers to a 20-11 record this spring.

  • Late Rally Lifts Bowdoin Past Softball in NESCAC Quarterfinals

    Middlebury saw its season come to an end with a 3-2 setback Saturday to Bowdoin in the NESCAC Quarterfinals hosted on the Amherst Softball Field. The Panthers end their season with a 20-11 record, eclipsing the 20-win plateau for the sixth time in the last eight seasons.
  • Quigley’s No-Hitter Highlights Sweep of Lyndon State

    Middlebury combined for 32 runs on 27 hits and, while holding Lyndon State to just one hit during a doubleheader sweep of the Hornets (0-20) on Wednesday. Allison Quigley fired the eighth no-hitter in program history in game two, while Irene Margiotta allowed just one hit in the opener. The Panthers (20-10) won both contests in five innings, earning a 23-0 win in game one, before taking game two, 9-0. Middlebury returns to action on Saturday in the NESCAC Tournament hosted by Amherst when it takes on Bowdoin at 9:30 a.m.
  • Panther Softball Team Gears Up for NESCAC Championship

    Middlebury secured the No. 3 seed in the NESCAC West and will open the 2018 NESCAC Tournament on Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. against Bowdoin, the east’s second-seeded team. The Amherst Mammoths will host the three-day championship which is set for May 4-6. The teams will play in a new format in 2018, as the tournament moves to single-elimination and the top four teams in each division qualify. The tournament champion will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship.
  • Softball Takes Two From Wesleyan

    Middlebury took game one 4-1 and picked up 8-3 victory over Wesleyan (14-15, 2-8) in the nightcap on Saturday. The Panthers (18-10, 5-6) and Cardinals are scheduled to play game three of the series at noon Sunday.
  • Softball Team Allows Just Three Hits in Sweep of RPI

    Middlebury held Rensselaer to no runs on just three hits as the Panthers (16-10) swept a pair of games from the Engineers (21-9) by scores of 3-0 and 1-0. Middlebury returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts St. Joseph’s (Vt.) in a doubleheader at 3:30 p.m., while Rensselaer will entertain St. Lawrence on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
  • Middlebury Tops Hamilton in Eight Innings
    April 22, 2018
    Middlebury’s Liza Tarr singled home the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning, as the Panthers edged Hamilton 2-1 Sunday in a NESCAC West contest played at Williams. The game was originally scheduled at Middlebury on April 14, but weather forced the contest to be moved to a neutral site with the Panthers remaining the home team. Middlebury is home on Tuesday for a twinbill against Rennselaer, while the Continentals (11-19, 2-7) host Amherst for a conference series starting on Friday.
  • Softball Drops a Pair at #19 Williams

    Williams took game one 9-0 in five innings and came back from a 2-0 deficit in the second contest for a 3-2 victory to complete a three-game sweep of the Panthers (13-10, 2-6). The 19th-ranked Ephs move to 26-6 on the year and 9-3 in the league. Middlebury returns to action on Sunday with a noon game against Hamilton at Williams.
  • Williams Takes Game One of Softball Series
    April 20, 2018
    Williams came back from a 5-0 deficit to pick up a 7-6 win over Middlebury (13-8, 2-4) in game one of a NESCAC West series on Friday afternoon in Massachusetts. The 19th-ranked Ephs (24-6, 7-3) and Panthers return to action on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at noon. The loss snapped the visitor’s six-game winning streak.
  • Softball Extends Win Streak To Six With Sweep of Union
    April 18, 2018
    Middlebury extended its winning streak to six games, as the Panthers claimed both ends of a doubleheader against Union on Wednesday. The hosts won the opener 8-0 in five innings and posted a 10-3 triumph in the nightcap. Middlebury (13-7) returns to NESCAC West action Friday, starting a three-game series at Williams at 5:00 p.m., while the Dutchwomen (5-13) remain on the road with two games Saturday at the Rochester Institute of Technology.
  • Middlebury Takes Doubleheader From Hamilton

    Middlebury combined for 18 runs on 22 hits, as the Panthers picked up a doubleheader sweep of Hamilton (9-15, 1-4) Friday in NESCAC West action. Middlebury (11-7, 2-3) won both games in five innings, taking the opener 8-0 and the nightcap 10-2. The third and final game of the series slated for Saturday, has been postponed due to the impending weather with a make-up date yet to be determined.

  • Softball Opens Home Slate With Wins Over Castleton

    Middlebury picked up a pair of wins over Castleton (1-11) in the team’s home-opening games. The Panthers were victorious 10-2 in five innings during game one, before taking the second contest by an 8-1 score. Middlebury (9-7) returns to action on Friday when it hosts Hamilton in game one of a NESCAC West series at 5:00 p.m. The Spartans will visit Johnson State on Thursday.
  • Amherst Takes Two From Softball Squad

    Amherst took both ends of a doubleheader from Middlebury (7-7, 0-3) on Sunday, earning 3-0 and 7-2 victories for a 3-0 series win. The 17th-ranked Mammoths improved to 16-2 overall and 5-0 in the league. The Panthers return to action on Tuesday when they’re scheduled to play their home opening doubleheader against Castleton at 3:30 p.m.
  • Five-Run First Leads #17 Amherst Past Middlebury

    Amherst scored five runs in the first inning and held off a Middlebury comeback, as the 17th-ranked Mammoths softball team (15-2, 3-0) picked up a 9-4 win in game one of a NESCAC West series. The teams return to action on Sunday with a doubleheader scheduled to begin at noon.
  • Weather Adjusts Softball Schedule

    The Middlebury softball schedule has been adjusted due to weather in the region. The opening contest of a NESCAC West series at No. 17 Amherst, originally scheduled for Friday, has been moved to Sunday with the first pitch set for 2:00 p.m. Saturday's twinbill with the Mammoths is still scheduled to be played at 12:00 p.m.

    The Middlebury softball team picked up a 4-3 win over Plattsburgh State on Wednesday afternoon at Cardinal Park. Game two of the twinbill was cancelled due to weather. The Panthers return to action on Friday with a 5:00 p.m. game at Amherst.

    The Middlebury softball team closed out its spring trip on Wednesday, dropping a pair of 2-0 decisions. The Panthers (6-4) opened with a loss against 10th-ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, before capping the trip with a 2-0 setback against Loras. Middlebury returns to the Northeast for a road doubleheader at Norwich on Friday, starting at 3:00 p.m.
  • Middlebury Falls to Wellesley, Blanks D’Youville in Florida
    March 27, 2018
    Middlebury split two games in Florida on Tuesday, falling to Wellesley 5-4, before posting a 2-0 shutout against D’Youville. The Panthers (6-2) conclude its southern trip Wednesday, facing 10th-ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater at 9:00 a.m. and Loras at 11:30 a.m.
  • Panther Softball Sweeps Pair of Sunday Contests

    The Middlebury softball team picked up two victories on Sunday during its spring break trip to Clermont, Florida. The Panthers (5-1) opened with a 12-2 win over Mount Mary (0-3) in five innings, before recording a 5-1 victory over Buffalo State (0-7). Following a day off, Middlebury returns to action on Tuesday with games against Wellesley at 9:00 a.m. and D’Youville at 11:30 a.m.
  • Middlebury Splits Pair of Games in Florida

    Middlebury split a pair of games on the second day of its spring trip in Florida. The Panthers started with a 5-2 setback against Farmingdale State and taking the second contest with a 6-3 triumph against Juniata on Saturday. Middlebury (3-1) is right back on the field Sunday with two more games, taking on Mount Mary at 9:00 a.m. and Buffalo State at 11:30 a.m.

    The Middlebury softball team opened up is 2018 season by facing Allegheny and Thomas in a pair of games in Clermont, Florida. The Panthers took the season-opener by a 4-3 score over Allegheny (6-7), before coming from 5-0 down for a 9-5 win over Thomas (4-4). Middlebury (2-0) returns to action on Saturday with games against Farmingdale State at 2:00 p.m. and Juniata at 4:30 p.m.
  • 2018 Softball Season Preview

    The Middlebury softball team has many key pieces returning in place for a solid 2018 season. The Panthers finished with a 17-14-1 mark in 2017 and will look to vie for the NESCAC crown this season. The team not only had a successful campaign on the field, but in the classroom as well. Eight Panthers were recognized by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) for having a grade point average of 3.50 or better through the spring season, while six players earned NESCAC All-Academic accolades with a minimum of 3.40 GPA.
