  • Panther Softball Honored by NFCA for Classroom Work
    October 12, 2017
    The Middlebury softball team was honored by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) for its overall work in the classroom during the 2016-17 academic year. Eight Panthers also earned All-America Scholar-Athlete laurels for their individual work from the organization.
  • Mandell, Freyre Earn NFCA All-Region Honors

    Middlebury College softball players Melanie Mandell (Harrison, N.Y.) and Sarah Freyre (Jackson, N.J.) were honored by the National Fastpitch Coach Association (NFCA), being named to the All-New England Region teams. Mandell landed a spot on the second team as an outfielder, while Freyre earned third-team honors as an at-large player. Both players had previously earned All-NESCAC accolades, as the duo helped lead the Panthers to a 17-14-1 record in 2017.

    Williams grabbed a pair of NESCAC West games at Middlebury on Saturday, earning a 5-1 win in game one, followed by a 3-1 victory in the nightcap. The Panthers finish their season with a 17-14-1 record, while Williams plays a makeup divisional game on Sunday at Wesleyan starting at 1:00 p.m.

    An unearned run in the first inning proved to be the difference, as Middlebury dropped a tight 1-0 decision to Williams in the opener of its NESCAC West series on Friday. The Panthers (17-12-1, 4-6) and Ephs (25-10, 8-1) return to the field on Saturday and will conclude their weekend divisional series with a doubleheader beginning at 11:00 a.m.

    Plattsburgh State took a pair of games at Middlebury on Wednesday afternoon, earning a 5-4 win in game one, before holding off the Panthers for an 11-9 victory in the second contest. Middlebury (17-11-1) returns to action on Friday when it hosts Williams in a NESCAC West contest at 5:00 p.m.
  • Middlebury Softball to Host Advanced Power Hitting Clinics
    April 24, 2017
    The Middlebury softball team will offer two advanced power hitting clinics on Tuesday, August 8 and Wednesday, August 9. The one-day clinics will run from 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. inside Middlebury's Virtue Field House. The purpose of the sessions is to help participants learn a movement-based approach to hitting which will increase their consistency in hitting for power.
  • Softball Twinbill With Plattsburgh State Pushed Back One Day
    April 24, 2017
    The Middlebury softball doubleheader with Plattsburgh State, originally slated to be played on Tuesday, April 25 at 3:30 p.m., has been pushed back one day due to anticipated wet weather in the region. The doubleheader against the Cardinals will now take place on Wednesday, April 26 with first pitch set at 3:30 p.m.
  • Freyre Tabbed NESCAC Player of the Week

    Middlebury College softball player Sarah Freyre (Jackson, N.J.) has been selected as the NESCAC Player of the Week. The senior, who plays first base, hit .522 (12-23) over seven games in a 5-1-1 week for the Panthers. Freyre, who recorded her 100th career hit during the week, belted six doubles to go along with a homer, eight RBI and scored nine runs. She went 6-12 over the weekend with five runs scored and five RBI as Middlebury won two of three games at Wesleyan. Freyre is riding a seven-game hitting streak with five multiple-hit games in that span.

    The Middlebury softball team dropped a 5-4 decision in nine innings, but bounced back with a 5-1 victory in the nightcap on Sunday, winning the three-game NESCAC West series with the Cardinals. The Panthers (17-9-1, 4-5) return home for a non-conference doubleheader Tuesday, hosting Plattsburgh State at 3:30 p.m.

    The Middlebury softball team opened its three-game NESCAC West series at Wesleyan with a 7-1 victory over the Cardinals in Connecticut on Friday. The Panthers (16-8-1, 3-4) and Wesleyan (9-17, 0-6) return to the field on Saturday and will conclude their weekend divisional series with a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m.
  • Softball Takes A Pair From Johnson State
    April 18, 2017
    Middlebury took a pair of games from Johnson State (1-9) on Tuesday afternoon, both contests going only five innings. The Panthers (15-8-1) exploded for seven runs in the fourth inning of game one en route to an 11-1 win, while scoring four times in the fifth of game two for the 8-0 victory. Middlebury returns to action at Wesleyan on Friday at 5:00 p.m., while the Badgers are at Husson on Saturday.
  • Middlebury Beats Norwich, Second Game Ends In Tie
    April 17, 2017
    Middlebury picked up an 11-10 victory over visiting Norwich Monday in the opening game of a doubleheader, while the second game was called due to darkness in the bottom of the sixth inning with the teams deadlocked at 9-9. The Panthers (13-8-1) are right back in action tomorrow, hosting Johnson State for a twin bill at 3:30 p.m., while the Cadets (5-14-1) face Anna Maria for two games.

    The Middlebury softball team fell in game one by a 6-4 score, but rebounded against host Hamilton in the second contest of the day for an 11-1 victory in five innings. With yesterday’s 8-5 triumph, the Panthers (12-8, 2-4) win the NESCAC West series, 2-1. Middlebury returns to action when it hosts Norwich on Monday for a doubleheader beginning at 3:30 p.m.

    Allison Quigley tossed a four-hit shutout in the opener and Middlebury posted a walk-off win in game two, guiding the Panthers to a doubleheader sweep Wednesday of visiting St. Lawrence (12-6) by scores of 3-0 and 7-6. Middlebury (10-7) returns to action on Friday when it travels to Hamilton for a NESCAC West contest on Friday beginning at 5:00 p.m.

    Middlebury pounded out 33 runs on 35 hits en route to a doubleheader sweep of The College of St. Joseph’s (0-6) on Tuesday. The Panthers (8-7) won both contests in five innings, earning a 22-2 win in game one, before taking game two, 11-3. Middlebury returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts St. Lawrence in a pair of games beginning at 3:30 p.m.

    Middlebury finished its weekend series with Amherst, dropping both ends of a home NESCAC West doubleheader as the visitors won the first game 3-0 and took the second 7-0. The Panthers (6-7, 0-3) host St. Joseph’s (Vt.) for a doubleheader on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m., while the Mammoths (17-6, 6-0) are home Wednesday for a twin bill against Smith.

  • Quigley Selected NESCAC Pitcher of the Week

    Middlebury College softball pitcher Allison Quigley (Wilmette, Ill.) has been selected as the NESCAC Pitcher of the Week. The junior went 2-0 on the final two days of the team’s spring break trip in Florida, allowing just one earned run over 12 innings with a 0.58 ERA and 13 strikeouts in two complete-game wins. She struck out six against SUNY Potsdam in a seven-inning game, while tossing a two-hit shutout against Maine-Farmington in a five-inning contest. Her 1.40 earned run average this season ranks second in the league, going 3-2 with 25 strikeouts and four complete games as well as 30 innings pitched.

    The Middlebury softball schedule has been shuffled around a bit with a pair of doubleheaders that have been rescheduled. The home twinbill with Norwich, originally slated for Tuesday, March 21 at 3:00 p.m., will now take place on Monday, April 17 with first pitch scheduled for 3:30 p.m.

The Panthers (3-3) opened the day with an 11-0 win over Thomas (2-11) in a five-inning contest. #24 MIT (4-0) downed Middlebury 8-2 in the team’s second game of the day. The team returns to action on Tuesday when it battles UMaine-Farmington in a doubleheader.

    The Middlebury softball team picked up its first victories of the season on Saturday during its spring break trip to Clermont, Florida. The Panthers (2-2) opened with a 3-0 shutout over SUNY New Paltz (2-9) before recording an 11-2 victory over Buffalo State (4-12) in five innings. Middlebury returns to action on Sunday with games against Thomas (Maine) at 9:00 a.m. and Wellesley at 11:30 a.m.
  • Middlebury Drops Two On Opening Day

    Middlebury opened the 2017 season with a pair of games in Florida on Friday, falling to Plymouth State 3-1 in the first contest and 3-0 to Benedictine (Ill.) in the second. The Panthers (0-2) are back in action on Saturday, facing SUNY New Paltz at 9:00 a.m. and Buffalo State at 11:30 a.m. Plymouth State ends its spring break with an 8-6 record, while Benedictine is 5-5.
  • 2017 Softball Season Preview

    The Middlebury softball team enters the 2017 season after just missing the NESCAC Tournament last spring. The Panthers finished with a 21-11 mark in 2016 and will look to vie for the NESCAC crown this season. The team not only had a successful campaign on the field, but in the classroom as well. A total of nine Panthers were recognized by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) for having a grade point average of 3.50 or better through the spring season, while six players earned NESCAC All-Academic accolades with a minimum of 3.35 GPA.
