The Middlebury ski team finished third overall at the Williams Carnival on Saturday afternoon. Dartmouth won the event with 990 points, followed by Vermont (910) and the Panthers (756). Third-place finishes by the men's and women's nordic teams highlighted day two of action. Nordic races were held at the Berkshire East Ski Resort, while the alpine races took place at Jiminy Peak. Middlebury returns to action next Friday when it hosts day one of its own Carnival.
Cate Brams led the women's team to a third-place finish in the 3.8K freestyle race, placing seventh overall with a time of 9:39. Next up was Katie Feldman in 13th place with a time of 9:51, followed by Alexandra Lawson, who crossed the line in 16th place (9:55).
After a win on Friday, Sam Wood again paced the Panther men, completing the 3.8K freestyle race with a time of 8:28, good for eighth place. Coming in 13th overall was Peter Wolter in 8:32, followed by Adam Luban who came in 19th overall (8:34).
On the alpine side, Erik Arvidsson led the Middlebury men in the slalom, with a career-best second-place effort in 1:52.79. Next for Middlebury was Riley Plant, whose two-run time of 1:55.56 put him in 19th place. Rounding out the scorers in 33rd place was Jack Schibli, who came in with a time of 1:59.53.
The Panther women were paced by Lucia Bailey, who earned the last spot in the top 10 with a time of 2:09.38. Katie Utter followed in 16th place (2:10.60), as Jackie Atkins completed the scorers in 22nd (2:12.20).
