Wilkerson took over the reins of the Middlebury cross country program in 2011 after working as an assistant coach with the program for the previous nine seasons. She also maintains her role as an assistant coach with the track & field program enabling her to work with several of the student-athletes for nine months a year. Wilkerson has been responsible for creating several workout programs for both teams and has coached more than 45 All-Americans.

In her first season as the head coach, Wilkerson was named both the men's and women's New England Region Coach of the Year. In 2012, she led the men's squad to its first NCAA Regional Championship, earning an eighth-place finish at the NCAA Championships. For her efforts, she was named the Men's Regional Coach of the Year. The following season in 2013, the men’s team earned its top finish in school history, placing seventh overall. In 2014, the Panther men were 13th and finished 24th in 2015.

Wilkerson has been an active member of the College community, serving on several committees, while helping to develop the recently established LEAP (Low Energy Athlete Prevention) program.

Prior to her arrival at Middlebury, Wilkerson was an assistant coach at Texas A&M for three years. While at Texas A&M, she obtained her master's degree in Sport Management, and lectured on health and kinesiology.

Wilkerson was an All-American track athlete at Rice University ‘93 and a four-year member of the cross country and track teams. After her collegiate career, she was a U.S. Track & Field National Qualifier in the 10,000 meters in 1995. The following year, Wilkerson was a U.S. Olympic trials qualifier in the same event.
