The Middlebury cross country teams began their respective 2018 seasons by winning the Vermont Tech Invitational. The women, ranked sixth nationally, finished with 15 points to win the title over Molloy (50) and Vermont Tech (80), while the 11th-ranked men claimed the team title scoring 15 points ahead of Molloy (50), Paul Smith's (95) and Vermont Tech (106). The Panthers return to action next Saturday when they host the Aldrich Invitational. The men's race starts at 1:00 p.m., while the women's competition begins at 2:00 p.m.
During the men's 8K race consisting of 59 participants, Panther scorers filled the first nine positions in the final results. Miles Meijer led Middlebury with a winning run of 26:58.81, while Theo Henderson was right behind in second place (26:59.93). Matt D'Aquila wound up in the third spot (27:04.93), while Harrison Knowlton (fourth, 27:06.43) and Henry Fleming (fifth, 27:09.72) rounded out the top-five places.
Leading the Panther women in the 5K race comprised of 36 women was Talia Ruxin with a winning time of 19:35.59, as Middlebury claimed the first 10 spots in the race. Rory Kelly finished second in 19:45.81, while Katherine Glew was next in third place (19:57.24). Phoebe Colvin Oehmig in fourth (20:00.93) and Katherine MacCary one spot behind in fifth (20:09.03) completed the scorers.
