McGean Ends NCAA Meet With School Record, All-American Effort

Middlebury's Michael McGean concluded his 2017 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships with a school-record and All-American performance on Saturday during the 1,650-yard freestyle. The four-day event took place at the Conroe ISD Natatorium in Shenandoah, Texas and was hosted by the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference and the City of Shenandoah. McGean represented the Panthers on the men's side, scoring six points on Saturday to tie for 43rd place in the team standings.

McGean stopped the clock in the morning swim with a time of 15:41.61, lowering his own school record of 15:46.27 set during the NESCAC Championship. The mark was the 11th-best time in the meet's longest event. The top-eight seeded individuals entering the meet swam in the evening's final, as McGean's morning time earned him Honorable Mention All-American accolades.
