Panthers Cruise Past Amherst at CSA Team Championships

The 17th-ranked Middlebury men's squash team eased past #24 Amherst by a 9-0 score on Friday morning in the Summers Cup quarterfinal round at the CSA National Team Championships. The event is being hosted by Harvard at the Murr Center Squash Courts. The Panthers return to action Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. in a semifinal match against #20 Brown. Middlebury (11-8) squared off with the Bears on January 29, earning a 7-2 victory in Rhode Island.

The Panthers started things off in the closely-contested match with a three-game victory by Andrew Cadienhead at #3 (11-6, 11-8, 12-10). Ben Krant doubled the lead with a four-game triumph at #6 (11-7, 11-5, 8-11, 11-6), while Ryan Swope went the distance at #9, including a thrilling 17-15 score in the decisive fifth game (11-7, 10-12, 11-8, 8-11, 17-15).

Middlebury made it 6-0 with four-game wins from Jacob Ellen at #2 (8-11, 11-2, 11-6, 11-8), Jack Kagan in the fifth spot (6-11, 11-8, 11-9, 11-9) and William Kurth at #8 (8-11, 11-6, 13-11, 11-7).

At the top of the ladder, Wyatt French swept his opponent in three games (11-9, 11-4, 11-5), Robert Rohrbach was victorious in three games in the seventh spot (11-4, 11-6, 11-5), while William Cembalest completed the sweep with a four-game victory at #4 (11-5, 11-6, 7-11, 11-6).
