The Middlebury men's squash team has earned the #1 seed in the Summers Cup (C Division) for the upcoming National Team Championships to be played at Harvard in the Murr Center Squash Courts. The Panthers, ranked 17th overall, will compete in the Hoehn Cup for the seventh time in the program's 10-year history, winning the cup five times over the last nine years. Middlebury takes on 24th-ranked Amherst in a quarterfinal match on Friday, February 17 at 10:00 a.m. and will continue to play on both Saturday and Sunday to determine their overall finish.
The Panthers enter the weekend with a 10-8 record after a third-place showing at the NESCAC Tournament earlier this month. After dropping the first two matches of the season, Middlebury reeled off six-consecutive victories to start the new year, including a 9-0 victory at Amherst on January 11. The Panthers competed against top-25 ranked teams in six of the seven matches to conclude the regular season, picking up wins over #22 Dickinson (7-2) on January 14 and #19 Brown (7-2) at the end of January.
Middlebury is led by senior captains Andrew Cadienhead, Wyatt French and Ben Krant. Cadienhead has competed mainly at the #3 spot along with four matches in the second spot of the ladder, posting a 9-9 record thus far this season. French has played atop the lineup with a 6-11 record this winter against the opponent's #1 player, while Krant has an 11-6 mark mainly at #6 for the Panthers.
