  • NESCAC Spring All-Academic Team Members Honored
    May 23, 2018
    The New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) has announced its 2018 Spring All-Academic Selections. To be honored, a student-athlete must have reached sophomore academic standing and be a varsity letter winner with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.40. A transfer student must have completed one year of study at the institution. The following are Middlebury's 131 representatives, the second-highest total in the conference.
  • NESCAC Spring All-Sportsmanship Teams Announced

    The New England Small College Athletic Conference announced its Spring All-Sportsmanship Team for each spring sport sponsored by the conference. The All-Sportsmanship Team is composed of one student-athlete from each institution for each sport and is selected by the players and coaches from their respective team for their positive contributions to sportsmanship. The student-athlete selected must be in good academic standing and a member of the team at the conclusion of the season in order to be eligible for selection.
  • Giguere Earns PING All-Region Accolades

    Middlebury College men’s golfer Jeffrey Giguere (Providence, R.I.) has been named to the Division III PING All-Northeast Region Team as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). He was also recently honored when he earned a spot on the All-NESCAC First Team.
  • Men's Golfers Earn All-NESCAC Honors

    Three members of the Middlebury College men’s team have been honored by the NESCAC. Sophomore Jeffrey Giguere (Providence, R.I.) was named to the first team, while senior Bennett Doherty (Bedford, N.H.) earned second-team honors. Middlebury first-year player Jordan Bessalel (Bethesda, Md.) shared NESCAC Rookie of the Year honors.

    Bennett Doherty ’18 is a member on the Middlebury men’s golf team as well as a captain. The Bedford, New Hampshire native is majoring in physics with a minor in Spanish. He turned a fascination with alternative forms of energy into a passion and is reaping the benefits.
  • Men's Golf Concludes Season

    The men's golf season came to a close as Jeffrey Giguere and Bennett Doherty competed for Middlebury as individuals at the 2018 NESCAC Championship. Action took place at the Indian Hill Country Club and was hosted by Trinity. The Bantams won the NESCAC title with a two-day total of 594. Individually, Giguere finished the event sixth overall with a 150 (73-77). Placing 21st in his final collegiate event was Bennett Doherty, who shot a two-day total of 163 (83-80).
  • Giguere Second After One Day at NESCAC Championship

    Jeffrey Giguere and Bennett Doherty are competing for Middlebury as individuals at the 2018 NESCAC Championship hosted by Trinity at the Indian Hill Country Club. Action concludes with 18 holes of action on Sunday. Giguere had an impressive day, firing a 73 to sit in a second-place tie after one round of play. Doherty carded an 83 for the Panthers and currently sits in 22nd place.
  • Doherty, Giguere to Compete at NESCAC Championships

    A pair of Middlebury men’s golfers will represent the team at the 2018 NESCAC Championship on Saturday, April 28 and Sunday, April 29 at Indian Hill Country Club in Newington, Connecticut. Senior Bennett Doherty (Bedford, N.H.) and sophomore Jeffrey Giguere (Providence, R.I.) earned a spot in the championship as individuals based on their performances at last fall’s NESCAC Qualifier. The duo posted two of the top-four individual scores outside of the four qualifying teams to become eligible to participate. Giguere (76-71) tied for third with a score of 147 on the individual leaderboard and Doherty posted rounds of 82-74 (156) to finish in a tie for 14th at the qualifier.
  • Giguere Wins as Men's Golf is Second at Williams Invitational

    The Panther men’s golf team placed second among eight squads at the Williams Spring Invitational at the Taconic Golf Club. Trinity won the NESCAC event with a two-day total of 598, followed by Middlebury (607) and the host school (621). Panther individuals will take part in the NESCAC Championship next weekend.
  • Men's Golf Opens Spring Season

    The Middlebury men's golf team opened its spring season at the Hampton Inn Collegiate Invitational hosted by UMass-Dartmouth at the Allendale Country Club. Trinity won the 18-team event with a two-day total of 606, followed by Babson (620) and Rhode Island College (621). The Panthers and Husson tied for fourth place overall, with each team shooting a 623.
  • Men's Golf Closes Fall at Ekwanok Tourney

    The Middlebury men’s golf team hosted Williams, Trinity and Hamilton at the fourth-annual Ekwanok College Tournament held at the Ekwanok Country Club in Manchester, Vermont. Eight golfers participated for each team, with the top-six scores counting for each squad. This marked the final event of the fall for the Panthers.
  • Panthers Compete at Skidmore

    The Panther men's golf team placed third among six teams at the Saratoga National Invitational, hosted by Skidmore. Williams won the event with a two-day total of 577, followed by Rensselaer (594) and Middlebury (598). The Panthers wrap up their fall season on Tuesday at the Ekwanok Challenge.
  • Action Complete at NESCAC Men's Golf Qualifier

    The Panther men’s golf team placed sixth among 10 teams at the 2017 NESCAC Qualifier hosted by Trinity at the Indian Hill Country Club. For the first time since the league moved the fall qualifier/spring championship format in 2007, the Panther did not qualify for the spring event.

    The Middlebury men’s golf team sits in sixth place after one day of action at the 2017 NESCAC Golf Qualifier hosted by Trinity at the Indian Hill Country Club. The host school leads the event with a 299, followed by Williams (304), Tufts (314) and the Panthers in sixth (324). Action resumes on Sunday with the final 18 holes of the qualifier.

  • Panther Men's Golf Heads to NESCAC Qualifier

    Winners of five of the last seven NESCAC Tournament titles, Middlebury begins its quest toward number six this weekend when it heads to Connecticut for the 2017 NESCAC Men's Golf Fall Championship Qualifier. Trinity College is set to host the event at the Indian Hill Country Club (par-72; 6,513 yards) in Newington, Connecticut on September 30 and October 1. The first wave of golfers will tee off at 10:30 a.m. on each day of the tournament. The top-four teams will advance to the 2018 NESCAC Men's Golf Championship, with the winner of the qualifier serving as the host. Additionally, the top-four individual golfers outside of the top four qualifying teams will be eligible to play in the spring championship event.

    The Middlebury men's golf team placed fifth among 19 teams competing at the Williams Fall Invitational at the Taconic Golf Club. Trinity won the event with a 584, while the Panthers came in with a two-day score of 611. Middlebury returns to action next weekend at the NESCAC Qualifier hosted by Trinity.
  • Men's Golf Ninth at Duke Nelson Tourney

    Babson captured the 34th Annual Duke Nelson Tournament hosted by Middlebury College. The Beavers shot a 283 on day two to finish with a 572, one stroke ahead of Western New England (573). Trinity (577), Williams (582) and Tufts (595) rounded out the top five teams. The Panther blue and white teams both 601 to tie for ninth place. Action took place at the par-71 Ralph Myhre Golf Course on the Middlebury campus. The Panthers return to action next weekend at the Williams Fall Invitational.
  • Day One Complete at Duke Nelson Golf Tournament

    Day one is complete at the 34th Annual Duke Nelson Tournament hosted by Middlebury College. Action is taking place at the par-71 Ralph Myhre Golf Course on the Middlebury campus. Williams leads the 22-team field with a 287, followed by Babson (289), Trinity (290) and Western New England (291). Middlebury is in a tie for sixth place with a 297 after 18 holes. Second-round play is set to tee off at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday.
  • Men's Golf Opens Season in Lake Placid

    The Middlebury men’s golf team opened up its season by hosting the Middlebury Fall Classic at the Lake Placid Club in New York. Saturday’s 18-hole event saw Williams shoot a 295 to take home the title. The Panthers were next with a 304, followed by Skidmore (313) and Castleton (324). Match play continues in Lake Placid on Saturday afternoon and Sunday.

    Following a strong conclusion to last season, the Middlebury men’s golf team enters the upcoming year seeking its third NCAA Tournament bid in the last four campaigns. Winners of five of the last seven NESCAC Championships as well as a runner-up effort last year, the Panthers are primed to contend again in 2017-18.
