The Middlebury field hockey team has been selected by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) as a recipient of a 2017 ZAG Field Hockey/NFHCA Division III Collegiate National Academic Team Award.
To be eligible for the team award, the institution must achieve a minimum team grade point average of 3.0 during the first semester of the 2017-18 academic year. Middlebury was one of 132 Division III field hockey programs to earn the team accolade with all 11 schools from the NESCAC garnering the award.
On the field, the Panthers posted grabbed the program's second NCAA Championship in the last three years and third overall with a school-record tying 20 wins (20-2). During four NCAA Tournament games, Middlebury outscored four nationally-ranked opponents by a 16-1 tally, including the largest margin of victory in NCAA Division III championship game history (4-0) against top-ranked Messiah. Middlebury also won the NESCAC title for the fifth in program history and the fourth in the last six seasons with a 5-0 victory over Trinity.
