  • #3 Panthers Defeat Husson As Leonard Climbs Career Lists

    The Middlebury field hockey team increased its winning streak to seven-straight victories with a 7-0 victory Sunday over Husson on Kohn Field. During the win, Annie Leonard had a goal and an assist, moving her into second place in Middlebury's career laurels with 67 goals, surpassing Heidi Howard's '99 mark of 66. Her three points vaulted her into third place with 156 career points (67-22-156), climbing past Howard's total of 155. The third-ranked Panthers (11-2) return to NESCAC play on Saturday with a 12:00 p.m. start at Bates, while Husson (8-4) travels to Bowdoin on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.

    The Middlebury field hockey team picked up its sixth-straight win with a 4-0 NESCAC victory over Trinity on Saturday. The Panthers (10-2, 7-1) return to action tomorrow when they host Husson at 1:00 p.m., while the Bantams (7-5, 3-5) entertain Wesleyan on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

    Middlebury College field hockey player Annie Leonard (Darien, Conn.) has been selected as the NESCAC Player of the Week. The senior forward scored three goals in a 3-0 week for the Panthers, including a pair of league road victories. She recorded a goal and an assist in a 3-2 win at fourth-ranked Tufts on Saturday, before scoring twice a day later, including the game-winning tally during a 3-0 victory at Wesleyan.

    The Middlebury field hockey team pushed its winning streak to five-straight victories with a 3-0 road NESCAC triumph Sunday at Wesleyan. The win was the 350th for head coach Katharine DeLorenzo, raising her overall career record to 350-124-2 in 26-plus seasons. The sixth-ranked Panthers (9-2, 6-1) continue conference play Saturday, hosting Trinity at 11:00 a.m.

    The Middlebury field hockey team scored twice in the second half, coming away with a key 3-2 road NESCAC win Saturday at Tufts in a showdown of nationally-ranked programs. The Panther defense was stellar in the final 35 minutes, holding the fourth-ranked Jumbos (7-3, 6-1) without a shot on goal. Sixth-ranked Middlebury (8-2, 5-1) is right back on the field Sunday, traveling to Wesleyan for another conference game.

    Carson Peacock is a Environmental Studies major with a focus in Environmental policy as well as a four-year member of the Middlebury field hockey team. A senior midfielder from Texas, not typically known as a field hockey “hotbed,” Peacock has seen her role and her game evolve more and more each year with the team.

    The Middlebury field hockey team tallied three goals in a span of 14:15 during Tuesday’s opening half, on its way to a 3-0 victory over Rensselaer at Kohn Field. Sixth-ranked Middlebury (7-2) jumps back into NESCAC play when it travels to #4 Tufts on Saturday at 11:00 a.m., while the Engineers (1-9) entertain 17th-ranked Rochester on Saturday at 5:00 p.m.

Seventh-ranked Middlebury (6-2, 4-1) jumps out of conference play when it hosts Rensselaer on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., while the Mules (5-2, 2-2) entertain Southern Maine on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.

    Middlebury's Annie Leonard scored 26 seconds into the second overtime to lift the seventh-ranked Panthers past #10 Bowdoin (3-2, 3-2). The victory marked the 250th win at Middlebury for 17th-year head coach Katharine DeLorenzo (250-59). Middlebury (4-1, 3-1) is back in action tomorrow when it visits #2 Babson for a 1:00 p.m. start.

    The Middlebury field hockey team suffered its first setback of the season, as visiting Hamilton held off the Panthers 3-2 in NESCAC action Sunday on Kohn Field. Fifth-ranked Middlebury (3-1, 2-1) continues conference play at 11:00 a.m. Saturday with a road game against Bowdoin, while the 15th-ranked Continentals (4-1, 3-0) host Utica Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

    Fifth-ranked Middlebury edged #7 Amherst (3-1, 1-1) in a 2-1 win on the road Saturday. The Panthers (3-0, 2-0) return to action on Sunday when they host Hamilton at noon, while Amherst will entertain Endicott on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.

Fourth-ranked Middlebury (1-0) opens NESCAC play Sunday hosting Connecticut College at 4:00 p.m., while the Spartans (1-2) entertain Mt. Holyoke Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
  • 2017 Field Hockey Season Preview

    Following a deep NCAA Tournament run into the quarterfinal round, the Middlebury field hockey team has plans to press harder on the accelerator this fall. Last season, the squad posted a 15-5 record as well as a six-game winning streak at the end of the regular season before falling to eventual NCAA champion Messiah in the round of eight. Winners of three of the last five NESCAC Championships, Middlebury is ranked fourth in the NFHCA preseason national poll and has its sights set on standing atop the podium in the middle of November in Kentucky.
