Middlebury College football players Andrew Rogan (Thompson Ridge, N.Y.), Martin Williams (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) and Maxwell Rye (Longmeadow, Mass.) have been named College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) District I First-Team Academic All-District selections by the organization. The trio helped guide the Panthers to a 5-4 record in 2018.
Rogan owns a 3.64 grade point average as an economics major at Middlebury. The senior started all nine games this season at left tackle for the Panthers. He played in all 26 games over the last three seasons and 29 in his career. Rogan helped anchor a line that ranked fourth in the league in passing (183.3 yards per game) and fifth in total offense (320.6 yards per game).
Martin possesses a 3.53 grade point average a history major. A two-time All-NESCAC selection, he ended the year with a career-best 29 tackles on the defensive line for the Panthers. He also recorded two sacks and 2.5 tackles for lost yardage. Playing in all nine games this fall, he tallied five or more tackles three different times, including a six-stop effort in the regular-season finale against Tufts.
Rye has a 3.75 grade point average as an environmental economics major. A Second-Team All-NESCAC selection, he ended the year leading the league with a 39.7 yard per punt average, second best in program history for a single season. Named the NESCAC Special Teams Player of the Week on October 15, he pinned the opposition inside its 20-yard line a league-best 21 times in 2018. Rye blasted a season-long 71-yard punt at Trinity on October 27.
The three players will now be placed on a national ballot with the Academic All-American team slated to be released on December 12.
