The Middlebury alpine team was in action on Friday afternoon at the St. Michael's Carnival with giant slalom races taking place at Smuggler's Notch. The Panther women finished fourth, while the men concluded the day in a fourth-place tie. Vermont leads the carnival with 725 points, followed by Dartmouth (684) and Middlebury (577). Action resumes on Saturday with the slalom event.
Leading the way for the Panthers in the GS was Riley Plant, who turned in a career-best sixth-place finish with a time of 1:48.01. Next for the Panthers was Erik Arvidsson, who crossed the line with a combined time of 1:49.40 to place 15th overall. Rounding out the scorers was Pate Campbell, who finished 25th in 1:50.11.
On the women's side, Caroline Bartlett led the squad down the mountain, placing eighth overall with a time of 1:52.98. Lexi Calcagni followed in 11th place with a two-run time of 1:53.37, while Jackie Atkins followed, earning a two-run mark of 1:55.34 to place 20th overall.
