Women Tie For First as Alpine Team Races at Colby Carnival

After high winds canceled Saturday's races at the Colby Carnival, the Panther alpine team opened its season on Sunday at Sugarloaf with the giant slalom being contested. The Panther women finished in a first-place tie with three finishers in the top 10. Middlebury finished the carnival third overall with 730 points, trailing Dartmouth (966) and Vermont (946). The squads return to the slopes next weekend at the St. Michael's Carnival.

Caroline Bartlett paced the Panther women in second place overall with a time of 2:04.31, including a first-run best time of 1:00.81. Jackie Atkins earned a time of 2:07.15 overall, to earn a career-best sixth-place finish. Completing the top-10 finishers was Lexi Calcagni, who crossed the line in 10th place with a time of 2:08.16.

The Middlebury men finished fourth overall led by Riley Plant, who came in 16th with a combined time of 2:03.62. Next up was Devon Cardamone, whose time of 2:03.77 was good for a 19th-place finish. Justin Alkier was the third Panther to finish, crossing the line with a combined time of 2:06.97, good for 32nd overall.
